“Building on Broadband – Practical Applications, Challenges and Opportunities”
A Small Business Panel Discussion
Wednesday April 17th, 2013
8:30 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.
The Oval, Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre
Part of the launch of Columbus in Barbados, this session will stimulate discussion and explore opportunities for collective advancement of the small business sector.
SUMMARY:
There are approximately 11,000 small businesses operating in the formal sector in Barbados, accounting for approximately 25% of the employed labour force and 40% of GDP.
While Barbados broadband adoption in business is more advanced than any other Caribbean territory, there exists several major barriers to end-to-end execution including: logistics challenges, cumbersome electronic payment systems and lack of content.
In this session, we will explore and give practical examples of how broadband technology stimulates growth in the sector, can save costs and generate greater efficiencies in small businesses. We will also debate what is required to fully exploit the potential of this technology.
