What's This?

Color me surprised because I had no idea English soul singer Joss Stone was still making music, Reggae music at that. Stone, who won a Best Female Pop Vocal Performance Grammy a decade ago for “You Had Me,” was recently crowned by Billboard as 2015’s “Reggae Artist of the Year” over reggae legend Bob Marley.

The publication’s decision to name Stone as this year’s top Reggae artist came strictly from album sales. After being encouraged by Damian “Junior Gong” Marley to drop a reggae album, Stone released Water For Your Soul in July and has sold over 27,000 copies since. Bob Marley and The Wailers’ Easy Skanking In Boston ’78 live album was released in February and failed to sell more than Stone’s experimental album, which apparently sucked according toBillboard‘s own review.

Despite it being a numbers game, “Joss Stone, Reggae Artist of the Year” headline still had a bunch of reggae listeners in disbelief. Fans went straight pon di bloodclot Twittah to share their thoughts on Billboard‘s madness.
