Check out photographer Matheus Thierry‘s photo essay of Brazilian club night BATEKOO – a night which is fast becoming a social movement; encouraging black empowerment, inclusivity, and sexual freedom.
Its camp say: “BATEKOO is a festival of black, returned to the black public. It aims to empower black people and sexual freedom – the music played include rap, hip hop, funk, R&B ,trap, Kuduro, Reggae, afropunk, ragga and other musical styles related to black culture.
The party takes place in Salvador, Bahia (the city with the highest number of black people in Brazil) and is a safe environment free from prejudice for black youth and an access to culture.”
They add, “”Batekoo” means beating ass, ass shaking . The name is suggestive, and emphasizes the freedom of the event.” See Matheus Thierry’s photo essay below.
