What's This?

Foodies with a penchant for quality fare and fine beverages, served up in a convivial ambience, can sample a feast of offerings during this month’s Taste of Cayman at the Festival Green on Saturday, Jan. 23.

The 28th open-air food and drinks festival, which attracts hundreds of visitors, has grown over the years to become one of the Cayman Islands’ premier gourmands’ events with over 32 restaurants and distributors taking part. Caribbean seafood and meat dishes alongside mouthwatering dishes from around the world will offer plenty of variety for visitors to try as well as two full-service drinks stations serving great wines, beers, lagers, cocktails and non-alcoholic drinks.

With a lively mixture of established and newer elements, Taste of Cayman 2016 organized by the Cayman Islands’ Tourism Association (CITA) will include:

  • A demonstration kitchen, where the islands’ best chefs can show off their culinary skills by preparing their favorite local and international dishes
  • The ever-popular heavy cake competition showcasing Cayman’s unofficial national dessert with cash prizes for the winners and the chance for visitors sample some of the finalists’ cakes
A mixologist contest featuring the final mouthwatering “mix off’ at the blue ribbon event
  • Awards presentations by secret judges during the evening for Best Booth, Best Food, Best Drink and more

The culinary high point of the night will of course be the People’s Choice Award for Cayman’s Favorite Restaurant award. Festival attendees will each be given a wooden nickel on entry to Taste of Cayman and are to hand over the “coin” to the restaurant which they think serves up the tastiest food. The winning restaurant, as voted by festival visitors, will not only win the title of Cayman’s Favorite Restaurant but will also get a $1,000 cash prize.

Among the newest features at Taste of Cayman 2016 will be sodas at the water stations throughout the festival grounds and the time-saving option for Taste-goers to buy their drink tickets in advance. Both initiatives were introduced in 2015 and aim to allow patrons less time in queues and more time to taste.

CITA’s Executive Director, Mrs. Tiffany Dixon-Ebanks said, “Our planning team is working hard to ensure Taste of Cayman on January 23rd is one of the best ever. We are excited about the restaurants who’ve signed on so far, both new and ‘repeaters’.

We’re also very thankful for our current list of sponsors and would certainly welcome additional stakeholders partnering with us in delivering this awesome and unique culinary experience.”

“That’s one of the new things, so I want to ensure that those people who want to avoid the long lines at the event to buy tickets, they’re welcome to buy drink tickets online at TasteofCayman.org” said Ms. Dixon-Ebanks.

The festival will also feature photo booth fun and candid snaps, live entertainment so revelers can dance the night away and a jaw-dropping fireworks display.

Tickets are $40 for adults and $20 for children in advance, and are available at CITA on West Bay Road, Celebrations, Bon Vivant, Cathy Church’s Photo Center, Acorn Publishing, Funky Tangs and Office Supply.
Adult tickets will be $50 on the day.  For more information, see  TasteofCayman.org.
