I am very proud of this honor. Honored last night by the Connecticut Women Hall of Fame. Great event. The Èzili Network was well represented. Folks came from Haiti, Atlanta, Boston and New York to attend. I was so proud to see everyone there. It was a fabulous evening. I spoke about the warrior women whose spirit influences both my performance and justice works. https://bit.ly/2JKdzA6

Each Honoree was given one question to provide a 20 second answer to during the ceremony. The question was: Culture and the Arts have long played an important role in telling women’s stories and advocating for women’s rights. How do the performing arts (or your medium specifically) contribute to putting women’s voice center stage? — https://bit.ly/2xWu8mP

My response:

“Cecile Fatiman, Grann Gitonn, Tante Toya, Defile, Lieutenant Sanit Bèlè, Mari Klè Erez, Mari Jann, these are the warrior women of the Haitian Revolution who changed the world. They are at the center of my performance arts and justice works. When women and girls are introduced to the hidden stories of these real life Amazon Black women, we unlock their imagination, show them the unlimited potential of all women.”
