#FreeHaiti November 18 Teach-In on Final Battle of the Haiti Revolution – The Battle of Vertières which ended European enslavement, direct colonialism, forced assimilation and the slave trade in Haiti, creating the nation of Haiti. (This video was originally published on Dec 12, 2017, here : )

The Battle of Vertières Day is a public holiday in Haiti. It’s annually celebrated on November 18 to commemorate the victory of the Battle of Vertières in the Haiti Revolution.

Èzili Dantò is a human rights and international law attorney and author. She is the founder and executive director of the Haitian Lawyers Leadership Network (HLLN) since 1994 and the Free Haiti Movement in 2004. Attorney Dantò was a lawyer and legal consultant for the first democratically elected Haiti president. She is an award-winning playwright, a Vodun Jazzoetry performance poet, a master Haiti dance choreographer and executive director at Zili Dlo, a clean water, skills transfer and solar power for Haiti project.

Èzili Dantò was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti and raised in the United States. She devotes the majority of her time giving voice to the voiceless and correcting the media lies and colonial narratives about Haiti. Dantò writes research pieces on a range of international, justice and cultural issues. But her writings are most popular and economically valued when there is a major crisis in Haiti. For the last 25 years, she’s been the steadiest international voice on Haiti, continually writing after the media goes home.

Èzili regularly publishes columns and research articles in The Progressive, Global Research, Black Agenda Report, San Francisco Bay View, LA Progressive, Open Salon, and Pacific Free Press and has essays in several anthologies. The Red, Black and Moonlight series is a dramatic memoir based on her experience in Haiti on the first return since she moved to the US as a young child.
